Yves Michel
Yves R. Michel is the recently retired Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Sustainable Resources Corporation, a leading manufacturer of a unique, patented water purification and filtration system. Prior to that, Mr. Michel was the President and Chief Operating Officer for PureSafe™ Water Systems, Inc. Mr. Michel joined the organization in 2015 as the Director of Global Sales & Marketing and subsequently became the President and COO in 2016. He was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the organization, all in an effort to have the product line address the global challenges associated with clean water.
Prior to that, Mr. Michel was the former Commissioner of Economic Development and Workforce Housing for the County of Suffolk, Long Island, New York, which is the ninth largest County in the United States with 900 square miles and a population of 1.5 million people. During his tenure as Commissioner, Mr. Michel directed numerous divisions within the department including the Divisions of Economic Development and Workforce /Affordable Housing, the Office of Community Development, the Office of Film and Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach and the Investors and Entrepreneurs Club, all in an effort to expand, strengthen and diversify the County’s economy.
Mr. Michel was also the Chairman of the Suffolk County Film Commission, Chairman of the Airport Community Advisory Board at Francis S. Gabreski Airport, Chairman of the Suffolk County Food Policy Council, member of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency, member of the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation and member of the Suffolk County Aquaculture Lease Board. Mr. Michel was also a founding member of the Suffolk County Small Business Advisory Council and the Suffolk County Coalition of Chambers of Commerce.
Prior to this position, Mr. Michel was the Chief Executive Officer of the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency and Deputy Director of Economic Development for the Town of Brookhaven. He also served as the town’s Minority Business Compliance Officer, Chairman of the Workforce Development Subcommittee and as Brookhaven Town’s Empire Zone Coordinator. With more than 25 years of private sector experience, Yves was Vice President of Sales and Distribution for the Americas with REALVIZ Corporation, and also held executive positions at Hewlett-Packard, Autodesk and Silicon Graphics, Inc.
Yves has a proven track record for being creative and resourceful in resolving issues, empowering others, improving organizational effectiveness and controlling costs. As a result of his prodigious talents, Yves has been the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his management, sales and civic achievements.
A Hofstra University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. Yves has also earned an Executive Leadership Certificate and a Performance Leadership Certificate, both from Cornell University. Yves has further earned a Higher Education Teaching Certification from Harvard University.
Yves served as a member of the Innovation and Industry Cluster Work Group of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Long Island Regional Economic Development Council. Yves also served on the Board of Trustees at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Suffolk and Board of Directors of The Health & Welfare Council of Long Island. Yves further served as an Advisory Board Member for Stony Brook University’s Corporate Education and Training Group as well as an Advisory Board Member of Brookhaven Dress for Success.
Yves also served on the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission, was an advisory board member for the Sachem High School Business Alliance Program and was the First Vice President of the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Bellport area and LIMBA Board Member. Yves also coached all three of his daughter’s basketball teams and currently coaching in the highly competitive travel AAU basketball circuit.
