Memorial Day 2026

We Americans are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth, where we are able to enjoy freedoms that most can only dream of. But that freedom comes at a terribly high price, something we all need to be reminded of as Memorial Day approaches.

Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

Before packing up the grill, beach towels, and bathing suits for an eventful Memorial Day weekend, we should all take a little time to remember what it is exactly we are celebrating.

Dating back to the American Civil War when it was known as “Decoration Day,” the practice of placing flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers is not only done in remembrance of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, but also to honor the freedom in which they upheld. To help celebrate the true meaning behind Memorial Day and commend the people who gave their lives to ensure all of our right to freedom. 137 years later, Memorial Day remains one of America’s most cherished patriotic observances. The spirit of this day has not changed – it remains a day to honor those who died defending our freedom and democracy.

While we were watching the Wonderful U.S. Navy Blue Angel F/A-18 jets at the Jones Beach Air Show this weekend, the Men and Woman piloting the F/A-18s are not just performing aerial maneuvers with pretty painted planes, as the aircraft in that squadron they fly are the same as those in the combat fleet. Each F/A-18 Blue Angel Aircraft is fleet capable of being returned to combat duty within 72 hours.

This holiday weekend, while you gather with family and friends at picnics, barbeques, and pool parties, please pause to reflect on the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting our country and be sure to thank their surviving family members, for they have sacrificed greatly as well.

Remember it is the Veteran who at one time wrote a blank check payable to the U.S. Government for the sum up to including his or her life.

Say a prayer for our brothers and sisters around the world with many in harm’s way to get back home safe.

God Bless You.

God Bless Our Troops.

God Bless the United States of America.
