SUMMARY:Marc Alessi - Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe
DESCRIPTION:Marc Alessi will give us an update on the progress at the Tesla Center at Wardenclyffe. \nThe Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe\, also known as Friends of Science East\, Inc.\, a not-for-profit organization incorporated by the State of New York\, was established with the specific purpose of developing a regional science and technology center on eastern Long Island. It is the hope of Friends of Science East\, Inc. to be able to establish this center at the site of the former Peerless Photo plant in Shoreham\, New York. \nThe Science and Technology Center and Museum would be a place dedicated to science education and to introducing visitors to the rich scientific opportunities on Long Island. This center and museum would complement the educational efforts of the schools within this region as well as the community outreach activities of other prominent science institutions. It would also look to provide possible space for fledgling companies engaged in scientific research. \nThe historic significance of the Shoreham site presents a unique opportunity as it contains the only remaining laboratory where Nikola Tesla\, the famous inventor of alternating current electricity and neon lighting\, conducted research. The building which he used as his laboratory was designed by the renowned architect Stanford White in the Italianate style.

DESCRIPTION:Angie Carpenter is a public servant whose impact resonates well beyond her role as Islip Town Supervisor. Even prior to being in government\, Angie was always an extremely active member of the community. When her sons were young she was involved with Little League\, Boy Scouts and PTA\, of which she is a lifetime member. In the late 1970’s and 1980’s she actively sought options to help “latch key kids.” She and other concerned citizens worked together to come up with solutions leading her to become a founding member of both the YES and ASKUS programs\, two programs that provide after school activities and educational opportunities for school children. \nIn addition to the volunteer work that Angie has done over the years with children\, Angie is a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board\, past President of the Board of Our Lady of Consolation\, and former chair of the Catholic Health Services Continuing Care Board\, and Vanderbilt Board of Trustees. She also served as President of the West Islip Chamber of Commerce for many years\, and formed the Town-wide Chamber of Commerce Council\, which united Chambers throughout the Town. \nSponsored by Summit Security Services\, Inc.
