SUMMARY:A Look at the Town’s Accomplishments and Future Plans with Rich Schaffer\, Supervisor\, Town of Babylon
DESCRIPTION:EVENT SPONSORED BY: \n \nSupervisor Rich Schaffer has strengthened Babylon’s quality of life by cracking down on code violations\, unsafe properties\, and illegal activity. Through the Town’s Quality of Life Task Force\, his administration continues to address problem properties and protect neighborhoods. \nThe Task Force also works to eliminate abandoned homes and combat issues such as drug activity and underage alcohol sales\, helping to create safer\, more stable communities across the town. \nSchaffer was first elected Town Supervisor in 1992 at age 29\, becoming one of the youngest executives in the town’s history. He served through 2001 and\, after the position became vacant\, was unanimously reappointed in 2011. \nSince his return\, he has been re-elected in 2012\, 2013\, 2017\, and 2021\, making him the longest-serving Town Supervisor in Babylon’s history. \nUnder his leadership\, Babylon earned its first-ever AAA bond rating from Moody’s\, the highest possible\, after once holding the lowest rating on Long Island. His creation of a commercial garbage district saved taxpayers millions\, eliminated corruption\, and generated revenue for long-term investments. \nFollowing Superstorm Sandy in 2012\, Schaffer led recovery efforts\, helping residents and businesses rebuild. He continues to focus on improving parks\, infrastructure\, and transit-oriented development to ensure a strong future for Babylon.

SUMMARY:Latest Updates to the Rail System with Rob Free\, President\, Long Island Rail Road
DESCRIPTION:EVENT SPONSORED BY: \n \nWith more than 33 years at the organization\, Mr. Free has equipped himself with an extraordinary grasp of rail operations\, planning\, and customers. He built his career from the ground up\, starting with the railroad as a Station Cleaner and later moving up through a variety of mission-critical roles. He led operations through the COVID pandemic and also helped advance the railroad’s epic Capital Program\, which included megaprojects such as the Main Line Third Track and Grand Central Madison. \nSince Mr. Free’s appointment as the LIRR’s 42nd President in April 2024\, the Railroad has renewed its focus on maximizing the customer experience through improving and “right-sizing” train schedules to meet actual demand\, system modernization and achieving record-breaking on-time performance—all while focusing on reducing costs and creating efficiencies throughout the system. Through extensive and ongoing data analysis\, vast improvements have been made to throughput and the transfer experience at the major Jamaica hub and overall customer satisfaction jumped 11% in one year’s time.
