DESCRIPTION:In 1993\, Ms. Carpenter was elected to the County Legislature. She served on almost every legislative committee\, where her leadership generated countywide initiatives in public safety\, education\, economic development\, consumer protection and cultural affairs. She was elected unanimously to serve as the Legislature’s Deputy Presiding Officer for two consecutive years. \nMs. Carpenter’s experience as a business owner was invaluable in helping to draft the county’s $2 billion-plus budget during her years in county government. She worked to bring the Touro School of Health Sciences to downtown Bay Shore and increase aid to Suffolk County Community College. She also helped implement a mass transportation public information program\, enacted a Linked Deposit Program to promote local business expansion\, directed the county Health Department to provide free testing for prostate cancer and worked with local breast cancer coalitions. She was also instrumental in the acquisition and preservation of Sagtikos Manor in Bay Shore as a historic landmark and improvements at Gardiner County Park. \nIn November 2005\, Ms. Carpenter was elected County Treasurer. In her role\, she increased interest earnings with all designated depositories and recommended changes to the state’s Real Property Tax Law. On March 1\, 2015\, she was sworn in as the first woman supervisor in Islip’s 300-plus-year history\, filling the seat vacated by Tom Croci\, who was elected to the state Senate. In November 2015\, she was elected to the post. \nMs. Carpenter is a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board\, past President of the Board of Our Lady of Consolation\, and former chair of the Catholic Health Services Continuing Care Board\, and Vanderbilt Board of Trustees. She also served as President of the West Islip Chamber of Commerce for many years\, and formed the Town-wide Chamber of Commerce Council\, which united Chambers throughout the Town.

DESCRIPTION:Mr. Wehrheim has over 40 years of government experience. He started working at the town’s Department of Parks\, Buildings and Grounds in 1972. In 1989\, he was appointed Director of the department and remained in that position until his retirement in 2003. During his tenure\, he saw Smithtown’s recreational facilities labeled as some of the finest in the state. \nIn 2003\, Mr. Wehrheim was appointed to the Town Council and\, in 2018\, he was elected Town Supervisor. Some of the accomplishments he oversaw as Supervisor were roadway repairs as part of the Kings Park Downtown Revitalization Initiative\, the streamlining of the building permit application process\, the creation of an Opioid and Addiction Task Force\, the construction of a sports complex in Nesconset and $1.5 million in funding for the Paul T. Given Park. \nAs Supervisor\, Mr. Wehrheim has introduced and passed budgets that stayed under the tax cap. As a result of his fiscal prudence\, the Town maintained its AAA bond rating from Moody’s Investors Service. \nA Kings Park resident\, Mr. Wehrheim is a Vietnam War veteran who served two tours with the U.S. Navy. In addition\, he is a Trustee of the Kings Park Education Foundation and a member of numerous local organizations\, including the Smithtown Sunrise Rotary\, the Smithtown Historical Society and the Smithtown BPO Elks Lodge.

During that time\, he achieved and maintained the town’s AAA credit rating from Standard & Poor’s. He complied with New York State’s property tax cap\, achieving properly balanced budgets while delivering four straight years of surpluses and reducing $31.1 million in pipeline capital debt. \nBefore entering local government\, Mr. Romaine taught history in the Hauppauge School District for 10 years. In 1980\, he entered public service as Brookhaven’s first Commissioner of Housing and Community Development and was later appointed Director of Economic Development. From 1986 to 1989\, he was a member of the Suffolk County Legislature before being elected County Clerk. His use of technology and ways to improve access to official records led him to be chosen as “New York State County Clerk of the Year” in 2001. \nIn 2005\, he was again elected to the Suffolk County Legislature\, representing the First Legislative District and re-elected in 2007\, 2009 and 2011. As a County Legislator\, he preserved countless acres of open space across eastern Brookhaven\, the North Fork and Shelter Island. He sponsored numerous pieces of landmark legislation\, including “Michael’s Law\,” which banned explosive fuel gels; the state’s first local law to regulate helicopter traffic; and established the LIPA Oversight Commission. He also reduced the tax burden on residents by promoting smart government initiatives and real tax reform. \nMr. Romaine earned a B.A. in History from Adelphi University and a Master’s in History from Long Island University.

DESCRIPTION:Biography\nEd Romaine is Brookhaven Town’s 70th Supervisor\, having been elected to that office during a special election in 2012\, and re-elected with a 63% plurality in 2013 for a full two-year term. \nAccomplishments\nAs Supervisor\, Romaine has championed environmental and quality of life issues in Brookhaven Town\, while strengthening Town finances. During his first year in office as Supervisor\, Ed Romaine spearheaded legislation that will forever protect the Carmans River\, which was unanimously approved by the Town Board and embraced by residents\, environmentalists and the building community. He introduced a package of legislation that has strengthened the Town’s housing codes\, and aggressively prosecuted problem landlords that have impacted neighborhoods throughout the Town. \nEd Romaine also proposed Vacant Home Registry legislation to make the owners of abandoned homes more accountable\, and will be bringing single-stream recycling to Brookhaven in 2014 – making the Town the leader in this technology on Long Island. In addition\, Ed Romaine has reduced millions of dollars in pipeline debt and maintained the Town’s strong credit rating\, while also holding the line on total Town property taxes in his 2014 budget. \nCommunity Service\nEd began his career in public service as a history teacher in the Hauppauge School District\, where he taught for ten years. In 1980\, he entered public service as the Town of Brookhaven’s first Commissioner of Housing and Community Development and was later appointed Director of Economic Development. \nCounty Legislature\nEd was a member of the Suffolk County Legislature serving from 1986 through 1989\, where he was known as a fiscal conservative\, sponsoring such cost-saving measures as the Suffolk County Tax Cap. Additionally\, he established a record as a fighter for the environment by authoring Suffolk’s first Clean Water Act. In 1989\, he was elected Suffolk County Clerk and served for 16 years\, taking an active role in increasing productivity and improving access to official records. Ed is recognized as a pioneer in government use of technology and was chosen “2001 New York State County Clerk of the Year.” \nIn 2005\, Ed Romaine was again elected to the County Legislature\, representing the First Legislative District and re-elected in 2007\, 2009\, and 2011. As a county legislator\, Ed preserved countless acres of open space across eastern Brookhaven\, the North Fork and Shelter Island. He sponsored numerous pieces of landmark legislation including “Michael’s Law\,” which banned explosive fuel gels; the state’s first local law to regulate helicopter traffic; and established the LIPA Oversight Commission. In addition\, Ed reduced the tax burden on residents by promoting smart government initiatives and real tax reform. \nPersonal\nEd Romaine earned a B.A. in History from Adelphi University and a Masters in History from Long Island University. He resides in Center Moriches with his wife\, Diane.

Tierney was elected as the Suffolk County District Attorney on November 2\, 2021\, and assumed office on January 1\, 2022. District Attorney Tierney is a career prosecutor\, having served more than 27 years as a prosecutor at both the state and federal levels. District Attorney Tierney is an independent prosecutor committed to enforcing the law in an ethical and accountable manner to protect the citizens of Suffolk County. \nDistrict Attorney Tierney started his career in law enforcement as an Assistant District Attorney in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in 1992 where he served under then-District Attorney James Catterson. He worked his way up through the ranks of the office from prosecuting misdemeanors\, to presenting felony grand jury cases\, and participating in all aspects of state felony prosecutions including trials of homicides\, kidnappings\, arsons\, violent sexual assaults\, and murder. Tierney then worked as District Court Trial Supervisor where he supervised entry-level ADAs. \nAfter seven years at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office\, between 1999 and 2002\, Tierney joined a local law firm where he managed cases for the litigation department of the firm\, having primary responsibility for all aspects of discovery and trial including depositions\, suit evaluations\, meeting with clients and expert witnesses\, legal research\, motion drafting\, preparing cases for trial\, jury selection\, and trying cases before juries in Bronx\, Queens\, Nassau\, and Suffolk Counties. \nIn 2002\, District Attorney Tierney returned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office where he served as an ADA\, investigating and prosecuting felony cases including political corruption\, organized crime\, street gangs\, homicides\, violent street crimes\, domestic violence\, child abuse\, and child pornography. These prosecutions included long-term investigations overseeing the efforts of a designated team of detectives\, utilizing wiretaps\, search warrants\, grand jury investigations\, and trials. \nBeginning in 2008\, Tierney served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Long Island Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York\, where he oversaw complex criminal investigations and prosecutions on behalf of the United States Government. District Attorney Tierney investigated allegations of criminal conduct\, drafted and applied for search warrants and arrest warrants\, presented evidence to federal grand juries\, prepared and filed indictments\, engaged in pretrial discovery\, litigated pretrial matters by motion and pretrial hearings and conducted jury trials and sentencing hearings. District Attorney Tierney met and coordinated with the Department of Justice regarding long-term international criminal prosecutions\, international fugitives\, and death penalty protocols. He debriefed the Attorney General on the status of MS-13 prosecution nation-wide and in New York. District Attorney Tierney handled all phases of criminal prosecutions including drafting appellate briefs and arguing appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. \nBetween 2019 and 2021\, Tierney served as Executive Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office\, working for DA Eric Gonzalez. Tierney was the Executive in charge of Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau\, Crime Strategies Unit\, and Body Worn Camera Unit. He oversaw all aspects of bureau activities and was responsible for long-term violent street gang investigation and prosecutions. He worked with NYPD and federal partners on developing investigations to seize guns and best allocate resources to prosecute the many criminal street gangs causing most of the violence in Brooklyn. In this role\, Tierney supervised units utilizing the efforts of designated teams of prosecutors\, NYPD investigators\, district attorney investigators\, analysts\, paralegals and clerical staff. \nDuring his long career as a prosecutor\, District Attorney Tierney received numerous awards including: \n\nFederal Law Enforcement Association Prosecutor of the Year for the successful prosecution of over twenty MS-13 members in United States v. Alvarenga\, et al.\, November 2016.\nFBI Long Island Gang Task Force “Meritorious Service Award” for successful prosecution and support of the FBI’s mission to combat\, disrupt and dismantle the MS-13\, March 2015.\nFederal Law Enforcement Association Prosecutor of the Year for successful trial prosecution of several MS-13 members in United States v. Geovany Prado\, et al.\, November 2014.\nFederal Agent’s “True American Hero Award” for successful trial prosecution of Colombian Norte Valle Boss in United States v. Carlos Arturo Patiño Restrepo\, March 2011.\nSouthampton Town Police Department’s “Full Court Press Prosecution Award” for successful prosecution in United States v. Manning\, Coffey\, Johnson\, Hopson and Gilliam\, September 2010.\nSuffolk County District Attorney’s Office Distinguished Trial Advocacy Award for successful trial prosecution in People v. Austin Offen and Constantine Chronis\, July 1999.\n\nDistrict Attorney Tierney attended Brown University where he was a member of the varsity football team\, and he received his Bachelor of Arts in History and English in 1988. He received his Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1992. While attending St. John’s\, Tierney was an Articles Editor at the St. John’s International Law Review from 1991-92. \nDistrict Attorney Tierney is a lifelong resident of Suffolk County where he resides with his wife\, Erica\, and their four children.

DESCRIPTION:Marc Alessi is an attorney and startup entrepreneur\, he brings to his role at the Tesla Science Center years of experience in the not-for-profit sector serving as the Executive Director of the Business Incubator Association of New York State\, as a board member of Peconic Bay Medical Center and Northwell Health\, a former board member of the East End Arts Council\, Nassau Suffolk Law Services and the Long Island Power Authority.  As a former Assemblyman\, Mr. Alessi was instrumental in securing a $850\,000 grant from New York State to help preserve the Tesla property\, this grant which required a match was the impetus of the world record breaking crowdfund campaign on Indiegogo which raised $1.4 Million in six weeks from 108 countries and 33\,000 investors around the world.  Mr. Alessi has helped to launch and finance a number of start up tech companies on Long Island and is focused on making our region one that rivals and compliments other innovation hotspots from around the world.  Mr. Alessi’s experience in startup enterprise is key to the launching of operations here at the Center.  He sees the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe as an important temple to technology that speaks to the history of innovation\, celebrates and promotes the current role of innovation in our lives\, and inspires future inventors like Nikola Tesla to embrace science and innovation to change the world.

He is a host of the popular\, award-winning\, radio show Breaking It Down with Frank MacKay and the former longtime Chair of the Independence Party of New York. \nFrank MacKay’s career in public relations\, entertainment and politics spans four decades and encompasses a diversity of fields of work. In 1985\, at the age of 18\, he published his first music publication\, “Network”\, which fast became a hit among music business insiders\, musicians and their fans. Throughout the next ten years\, MacKay built a significant following in the music industry as a band and club promoter. By the age of 25\, he had launched three nightclubs known as Dr. Shay’s and managed entertainers such as Criss Angel and CJ Ramone. \nIn 1992\, MacKay became active in Ross Perot’s third party presidential run. MacKay was always an avid student of politics\, and early in his career in entertainment he helped club-goers register to vote by the thousands. In 1995\, he became a key organizer in the Independence Party and active in third party politics. By the year 2000\, at the age of 32\, MacKay became the youngest State Chairman of a political party in New York State history\, and served as the Independence Party Chair for 20 years. \nHis success in entertainment and politics has been widely reported; MacKay has appeared in hundreds of national\, state and local publications and has developed a niche audience among young political activists. \nFrank MacKay resides in New York with his wife and four children. He served as a Member of the Board of Governors for the Touro Law Center and holds a master’s degree from SUNY\, Stony Brook. In 2008\, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Five Towns College for his accomplishments in business and politics. MacKay is also the author of eight books.

Also sits on the board of LIMBA (Long Island\, Metro Business Association). \n  \nAbout Dorian Dale \nDorian Dale serves as director of sustainability and chief recovery officer for Suffolk County. Operating at the nexus of these two positions\, County Executive Steve Bellone’s “Reclaim Our Waters” program seeks to mitigate the nutrient loading that has degraded our wetland defenses and surrounding ecosystems even as it threatens our groundwater. Dale served as vice-chair on the Superstorm Sandy Task Force and oversees extended recovery and mitigation in Sandy’s wake and in the face of sea-level rise. He played an elemental role in securing a substantial 9-figure Federal grant for major sewer infrastructure projects as well as two 7-figure grants for wetland restoration. He was one of the principal authors of the Suffolk County Comprehensive Water Resources Management Plan. \nAs co-architect\, with County Executive Bellone\, of Long Island Green Homes\, the first operational residential property-assessed clean energy (PACE) program in the country\, Dale was named the Eighth Citi Distinguished Fellow\, NYU Stern School of Business. He served as a director for the original Earth Day in 1970\, on the original planning committee of the Urban Sustainability Directors Network\, and serves on the External Review Committee for the NYS-DEC Environmental Excellence Awards. He is chief strategic officer for the Suffolk County Land Bank\, surrogate commissioner on the Pine Barrens Commission\, serves on Suffolk County’s Aquaculture Lease Board\, and represents the County Executive on the Long Island Commission for Aquifer Protection as well as the South Shore Estuary Reserve Council. DESCRIPTION:Register Here:\nAs Director of the Long Island Office (LIO)\, Carrie and her regional staff will provide increased regulatory oversight of LIPA and PSEGLI and ensure fair and reasonable electric rates for ratepayers\, while also safeguarding access to secure\, resilient\, reliable\, and sustainable electric\, gas\, water and telecommunications services in the region. Part of this increased oversight will include enhanced outreach to consumers\, businesses\, and stakeholders on Long Island to make sure the LIO is meeting the needs of all Long Islanders. Concurrently\, the LIO will facilitate development of the clean energy infrastructure in the region that is needed to implement the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). \nMost recently Carrie held the position of Acting Deputy Secretary to the Governor for Energy and Environment\, serving as a member of the Executive Chamber under the direction of the Director of State Operations overseeing all phases of government operations and policy management within the Energy and Environment Portfolio. This portfolio includes the following agencies and authorities: NYSDEC\, NYSEFC\, NYSOPRHP\, NYPA\, NYSERDA\, LIPA\, NYSDPS\, APA\, LGPC\, HRPT\, HRBRRD\, and HRGV.\nPreviously\, Carrie served as the Regional Director for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)\, overseeing a staff of 188 personnel with responsibility for implementing environmental conservation programs throughout Long Island. The Department’s mission is to conserve\, improve and protect New York’s natural resources and environment and to prevent\, abate and control water\, land\, and air pollution\, to enhance the health\, safety\, and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being. \nShe also served as the Chief Sustainability Officer for the Suffolk County Water Authority\, responsible for implementing a sustainability program\, including source water protection\, water quality improvement\, water conservation\, energy efficiency\, renewable energy\, recycling\, green buildings and procurement\, waste reduction\, and environmental education. Prior to becoming Chief Sustainability Officer\, she was the Suffolk County Commissioner of the Department of Environment and Energy\, safeguarding the county’s natural resources and providing a single centralized office for consideration of issues and activities from the perspective of their impact on the environment. She has also served as Deputy Director of Planning for Suffolk County; the inaugural director of the Long Island Index\, an indicators project that measures the region’s progress toward improving the quality of life for all Long Islander; headed the Nassau County Economic Development Resource Center under County Executive Tom Suozzi; and developed Sustainable Long Island’s Brownfields Redevelopment program. \nShe holds a B.A. in Sustainable Development and Latin American Studies from Amherst College\, an M.S. in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development from the University of Maryland at College Park\, and an MBA from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University. DESCRIPTION:Jerry Kremer served in the New York State Assembly for 13 terms from 1966 until 1988. While in the Assebly\, he helped draft the New York “Shield Law”\, which allowed journalists to refuse or reveal the sources of the information in news articles. Kremer also sponsored the “Lemon Law”\, and lobbied for the reinstatement of the Article X Power Plant Siting Law. \nDuring his term in office\, Kremer also spoke and wrote on the subjects of Truth in Lending for banks\, assistance to senior Citizens including a law mandating that seniors be notified of their eligibility for a tax break by local governments and the first state pharmaceutical distribution program\, a law requiring that LIRR employees be trained in CPR\, a law forcing gas distributors to disclose their records on all shipments and pay the corresponding tax\, and price minimum on cigarettes to counteract bootlegging. \nIn 2010\, Kremer founded Empire Government Strategies\, a government relations firm. He has served as government relations representation to Canon U.S.A.\, DMJM+Harris Engineering\, the New York State Bowling Proprietor’s Association\, the Bus Association of New York State\, Public Service Electric and Gas\, Caithness Energy\, MedReview\, the Fair Assessment Committee\, the Town of North Hempstead\, and the New York Association of Wholesale Marketers. \nKremer has spoken and written extensively about the energy industry and about energy policy in New York State and in the United States. He has testified on a number of occasions before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He is a supporter of the re-licensing of the Indian Point Energy nuclear power plant. DESCRIPTION:Phil Eng is the President of the MTA Long Island Rail Road\, the largest commuter railroad in the nation serving over 89 million rides a year. Phil initiated the railroad’s Forward program – a set of strategic initiatives aimed at improving service reliability and enhancing the customer experience. Under Phil’s leadership\, Long Island Rail Road is delivering an historic $6B capital program to modernize and expand its infrastructure\, including Double Track\, Main Line Expansion\, East Side Access\, Jamaica Capacity Improvements\, new M9 fleet and Centralized Train Control. \nPhil first joined the MTA in 2017 as the Chief Operating Officer where he spearheaded initiatives focused on modernizing transportation systems through innovative technologies. These include the development of new fare payment applications and testing new signaling systems. Phil also served as the Acting President for New York City Transit leading the early efforts of the Subway Action Plan. \nPhil began his career in public service in 1983 at the New York State Department of Transportation as a Junior Engineer. He gained expertise working his way up through various groups from Structures\, Bridge Inspection\, Maintenance\, Design and Construction. At NYSDOT Phil held various positions including Construction Supervisor\, Regional Director\, Chief Engineer before his final post as Executive Deputy Commissioner. During his tenure at DOT\, Phil played a vital role improving project delivery and use of design build while delivering significant projects such as the I-81 Environmental Impact Study\, Rochester Train Station\, and construction of the new Kosciuszko and the Mario M. DESCRIPTION:Lawrence Levy\, executive dean of the National Center for Suburban Studies\, has been appointed as Hofstra’s new Vice President for Economic Development and Professional Studies\, President Stuart Rabinowitz announced. \nLevy will continue in his role as executive dean of the suburban studies center\, in addition to taking on what has been called Continuing Education at Hofstra\, which will now be known as Professional Studies. \n“Larry has done an outstanding job\, together with our faculty\, in building our National Center for Suburban Studies (NCSS) into a nationwide resource on suburbia\,” President Rabinowitz said. “I look forward to his utilizing that same skill set\, and once again together with the faculty\, in building a major professional studies resource for the Long Island and New York business\, governmental\, and not-for-profit communities.” \nLevy brings to this new assignment an impressive\, varied resume. In 35 years as a reporter\, editorial writer\, columnist and PBS host\, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and won many of journalism’s other top awards\, for in-depth works on suburban politics\, education\, taxation\, housing and other key issues. Known for blending local perspectives with national trends\, he covered seven presidential campaigns and 17 national conventions. In his leadership role at NCSS\, Larry has worked with Hofstra’s academic and local communities to shape an innovative\, inclusive and interdisciplinary agenda for suburban study\, including a new Sustainability Studies degree. \n“I’m looking forward to working with our dedicated faculty and staff to create great courses for the increasing number of people who want to keep growing professionally or personally through life-long learning\,” Levy said. “Long Island businesses and communities are changing\, as are their educational needs\, so we need to find new ways to deliver new programs that are both exciting and essential.” \nOver the years he has forged research alliances with other academic institutions\, including Harvard\, Columbia\, Cornell\, the Brookings Institution\, Boston College\, Virginia Tech\, New York University\, Exeter\, and Maynooth\, as well as consulting relationships with not-for-profit groups\, businesses and government agencies. DESCRIPTION:Timothy D. Sini was elected as the Suffolk County District Attorney on November 7\, 2017 and assumed office on January 1\, 2018. District Attorney Sini immediately began a comprehensive review of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office with the objectives of creating a culture of excellence\, professionalism and ethical conduct\, while launching cutting edge\, 21st Century strategies to address the public safety issues of our time. District Attorney Sini is committed to creating a culture of compliance with the highest ethical standards\, including creating the first ever Conviction Integrity Bureau in Suffolk County\, investing in new training programs for prosecutors and instituting smart prosecutions through the robust collection and analysis of data. The overall mission is to make the Office the best it can be\, seek justice in each and every case\, and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the great residents of Suffolk County. \nTo this end\, thus far\, District Attorney Sini has made over 250 personnel decisions\, recruited top talent at all levels to the Office\, overhauled the Office’s training program\, implemented smart criminal justice policies\, created new Bureaus to address the public safety issues of our time\, and dramatically increased the Office’s productivity. District Attorney Sini\, as promised during this campaign\, has focused the Office on aggressively addressing the drug epidemic\, eradicating violent street gangs such as MS-13\, combating the scourge of illegal dumping and other environmental crimes that threaten our environment and public health\, effectively confronting human trafficking\, and holding public officials accountable for their misdeeds. \nPrior to District Attorney Sini’s election\, he served as the 13th Commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department\, which is the 11th largest police department in the nation. As Police Commissioner\, District Attorney Sini restored integrity to the leadership of the Police Department\, reduced crime to the lowest level in recorded history\, improved community relations\, and enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department through improving processes and investing in technology. \nAs Police Commissioner\, District Attorney Sini enhanced the Department’s intelligence-led policing model and made collaborating with the Department’s law enforcement and community partners a cornerstone of his administration. During Sini’s tenure as Police Commissioner\, crime was reduced to historic levels\, with violent crime decreasing more than 15% and overall crime decreasing over 12%. District Attorney Sini brought the fight against the violent street gang MS-13 to the national stage by making it a top priority of the Department. Through a multi-pronged strategy\, the Suffolk County Police Department made well over 300 arrests of MS-13 gang members in just over one year and launched innovative community intervention strategies to prevent vulnerable children from becoming involved with gangs. District Attorney Sini testified before the United States Senate and House of Representatives regarding MS-13 and successfully lobbied the Department of Justice for additional resources to combat MS-13 in Suffolk County\, including a $500\,000 grant\, which was awarded after President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited Suffolk County on two separate occasions. District Attorney Sini also launched several new community intervention programs\, including the innovative Preventing Incarceration Via Opportunities for Treatment (PIVOT) Program\, an alternative to arrest program whereby the Suffolk County Police Department connects those suffering from drug addiction to treatment. \nDistrict Attorney Sini also made homeland security a top priority\, launching a number of initiatives including the SCPD Shield Program\, a private public partnership to decrease Suffolk County’s vulnerability to terrorism\, active shooter scenarios and street crime. District Attorney Sini also rolled out new technology to enhance the Department’s capabilities in fighting crime\, including a new\, award-winning intelligence-led policing platform. In addition\, District Attorney Sini launched a number of initiatives to increase the efficiency of the patrol division\, allowing officers to spend more time engaged in proactive police work and community policing\, and significantly reformed the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau\, making it more accountable and responsive to community concerns. \nDistrict Attorney Sini serves as a representative on the White House’s Office of Drug Control Policy New York/New Jersey Regional HIDTA Team\, where he assists in creating strategies between public health and public safety agencies to reduce opioid overdoses in the region. District Attorney Sini is also the Chairman of the Suffolk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council\, which consists of all the stakeholders in Suffolk County’s criminal justice system. \nDistrict Attorney Sini is a graduate of the FBI’s National Executive Institute\, an elite training program for law enforcement’s national leaders\, and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education program. He is also an adjunct professor at Touro Law Center where he teaches a course on contemporary issues in policing and prosecution and a course on criminal law. \nPrior to his appointment as Police Commissioner\, District Attorney Sini served as the Assistant Deputy County Executive for Public Safety in the administration of Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone. In this role\, he spearheaded numerous public safety initiatives\, including an innovative drug treatment program targeting Suffolk County inmates and releasees\, as well as an evidence-based gang prevention program targeting children as early as the third grade. Both programs received National Association of Counties (NACo) awards. He also led the effort\, in collaboration with the Suffolk County Sheriff\, to lift the unfunded state mandate to build a third jail in Suffolk County by developing a plan to further invest in alternative to arrest programs. \nDistrict Attorney Sini started his career in law enforcement as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York where he served under U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. District Attorney Sini specialized in investigating and prosecuting violent crimes\, including homicides\, gang related activity and large scale narcotics cases. As a federal prosecutor\, he prosecuted hundreds of violent gang members\, hitmen\, drug traffickers\, corrupt doctors and pharmacists\, and much more. Prior to serving as an Assistant United States Attorney\, District Attorney Sini practiced law in the private sector and served as a law clerk for the Honorable William C. Conner\, a federal district court judge in the Southern District of New York\, and the Honorable Chester J. Straub\, a federal appeals court judge in the Second Circuit. \nSini is a magna cum laude graduate of both Brooklyn Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor and American University in Washington\, D.C. where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a minor in Justice. DESCRIPTION:Donald R. Boomgaarden\, Ph.D.\, the eighth president of St. Joseph’s College of New York\, most recently served as the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Scranton in Scranton\, Pennsylvania. Before arriving at Scranton\, he was the dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts and David P. Swanzy Distinguished Professor of Music at Loyola University New Orleans\, the only college devoted solely to the performing arts in the entire 28-university Jesuit system. \nDr. Boomgaarden is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Vienna\, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He also graduated from Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education. His teaching career has included positions at the Eastman School of Music\, Ithaca College Conservatory of Music\, St. Mary’s College in Maryland\, the Institut für Musikwissenschaft at the University of Salzburg\, Loyola University Maryland and Loyola University New Orleans. He served as chair of the music department at St. Mary’s College in Maryland\, and later as assistant to the provost. At Loyola University Maryland\, he was the assistant vice president for academic affairs and was primarily responsible for the creation of new academic programs\, assessment and faculty development. \nDr. Boomgaarden has enjoyed a long career as a performing artist. While still in high school\, he studied with Blaise Montandon at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi\, Texas. At Texas State University\, he studied piano and composition with Russell Riepe. Later\, at the Eastman School\, Dr. Boomgaarden studied with Ellen Martin and Thomas Donohue. He has performed at master classes with Gustav Leonhardt and Paul Badura-Skoda\, and continues to perform frequently as a soloist and accompanist in Europe and the United States. Most recently\, he performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s complete Goldberg Variations in Baltimore\, Maryland; Corpus Christi\, Texas; and New Orleans. He also performed a cycle of Chopin’s Mazurkas for Loyola’s Alumni College events. His most recent performances included an all-Chopin recital of Mazurkas\, Nocturnes\, Preludes and Waltzes\, as well as a special concert broadcast on WVIA’s “Simply Grand” artist series. \nDr. Boomgaarden is a noted historian of opera\, music aesthetics and harmonic theory. His writings include his book on the interrelationships between philosophy and music\, “Musical Thought in Eighteenth-Century Britain and Germany\,” and articles in The “New Grove Dictionary” and “The New Grove Dictionary of Opera\,” as well as the “British Dictionary of National Biography”. He has published articles and reviews in many scholarly journals\, including the Journal of Musicological Research\, Journal of Music Theory\, Ad Parnassum and the Journal of Education and Learning. Dr. Boomgaarden’s writing has also been published in a number of popular journals and magazines\, such as Opera Today and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
