SUMMARY:Ed Romaine - Brookhaven Town Supervisor
DESCRIPTION:Ed Romaine is Brookhaven Town’s 70th Supervisor\, having been elected to that office during a special election in 2012\, and re-elected with a 63 percent plurality in 2013 for a full two-year term. \nAs Supervisor\, Romaine has championed environmental and quality of life issues in Brookhaven Town\, while strengthening Town finances. During his first year in office as Supervisor\, Ed Romaine spearheaded legislation that will forever protect the Carmans River\, which was unanimously approved by the Town Board and embraced by residents\, environmentalists and the building community. He introduced a package of legislation that has strengthened the Town’s housing codes\, and aggressively prosecuted problem landlords that have impacted neighborhoods throughout the Town. Ed Romaine also proposed Vacant Home Registry legislation to make the owners of abandoned homes more accountable\, and will be bringing single-stream recycling to Brookhaven in 2014 – making the Town the leader in this technology on Long Island. In addition\, Ed Romaine has reduced millions of dollars in pipeline debt and maintained the Town’s strong credit rating\, while also holding the line on total Town property taxes in his 2014 budget. \nEd began his career in public service as a history teacher in the Hauppauge School District\, where he taught for ten years. In 1980\, he entered public service as the Town of Brookhaven’s first Commissioner of Housing and Community Development and was later appointed Director of Economic Development. \nEd was a member of the Suffolk County Legislature serving from 1986 through 1989\, where he was known as a fiscal conservative\, sponsoring such cost-saving measures as the Suffolk County Tax Cap. Additionally\, he established a record as a fighter for the environment by authoring Suffolk’s first Clean Water Act. In 1989\, he was elected Suffolk County Clerk and served for 16 years\, taking an active role in increasing productivity and improving access to official records. Ed is recognized as a pioneer in government use of technology and was chosen “2001 New York State County Clerk of the Year.” \nIn 2005\, Ed Romaine was again elected to the County Legislature\, representing the First Legislative District and re-elected in 2007\, 2009\, and 2011. As a county legislator\, Ed preserved countless acres of open space across eastern Brookhaven\, the North Fork and Shelter Island. He sponsored numerous pieces of landmark legislation including “Michael’s Law\,” which banned explosive fuel gels; the state’s first local law to regulate helicopter traffic; and established the LIPA Oversight Commission. In addition\, Ed reduced the tax burden on residents by promoting smart government initiatives and real tax reform. \nEd Romaine earned a B.A. in History from Adelphi University and a Masters in History from Long Island University. He resides in Center Moriches with his wife\, Diane.

He has served as government relations counsel to Canon USA\, Public Service Electric & Gas\, Hostelworld\, New York State Bowling Proprietor’s Association\, Bus Association of New York State\, Town of North Hempstead\, the New York State Power Authority and various medical groups\, technology groups and prominent energy companies. City and State magazine has designated him as one of the most powerful lobbyists in Albany and he is a member of the Hall of Fame of Long Island Business News. \nHe maintains an active role in many key Long Island organizations. He is a Trustee of Hofstra University; a member of the Board of Overseers of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts\, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Association. Jerry is also Chair Emeritus of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City\, a 600-member youth chorus. Currently\, he is the newly elected chairman of the Council of Independent College and Universities Governing Board\, which makes him the spokesman for 8\,100 college trustees who served on 131 college boards. He is a past president of the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Association. In addition\, Jerry is a colonel (ret.) in the New York State Guard. He is chair of the New York Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance\, a 200-member group\, which advocates positions on key energy issues. He is currently serving as special counsel to the Mayor of Mt. DESCRIPTION:Joe Saladino has 23 years of government experience\, including the last nine as a New York State Assemblyman. In Albany\, he has long teamed with Senators Owen Johnson and Chuck Fuschillo\, and stands for reform\, reducing taxes and restoring efficiency to State government. He opposes unfunded mandates to make our communities more affordable. He successfully fought for significant increases in state aid to our schools and for Long Island’s fair share. \nHis cornerstone has been protecting children from predators. He helped to sponsor and pass the current civil confinement law\, keeping dangerous criminals off of our streets\, and fought for a new\, stronger “Megan’s Law.” As a veteran in the Assembly\, he is the Assembly Minority Conference’s Program Chairman. He sits on the Assembly’s Governmental Employees\, Education\, Labor\, and Environmental Conservation Committees and has co-chaired task forces on High Tax Relief\, Small Business Development\, and Safe Communities. He recently created a Heroin and Prescription Drug Abuse Relief Task Force to protect our youth. He broadcasted the morning news and hosted a talk show on WNYG on Route 109 in West Babylon. He also worked with a Long Island civil engineering firm immersed in civil construction and environmental engineering projects. He sponsors green technology legislation\, including creating solar energy development zones and the Long Island Green Jobs Act.\nA lifelong community volunteer\, he is a 24-year member and past Kiwanis Club President where he received the distinguished “Kiwanian of the Year” award. He is also a member of the Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge and a former Trustee of the Historical Society. He has volunteered helping veterans at the Northport VA Hospital and is an American Legion SOL member and an honorary member of the Marine Corps League. He has worked with non-profit organizations helping breast cancer survivors\, supporting the American Heart Association\, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and the United Way\, among many others. Volunteering for youth causes\, he has coached youth ice hockey and continues to lead efforts with Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting. Assemblyman Saladino is an outdoorsman and mountain climber. He has climbed some of the world’s most famous mountains\, carrying the Kiwanis International Flag to the top of Mount Whitney\, the tallest mountain in the United States outside of Alaska\, and Mont Blanc\, the highest mountain in Western Europe. In Italy\, he climbed Mt. Etna and Mt. Stromboli\, the world’s most active volcano. In New York\, he went to the top of Mount Marcy\, the Empire State’s highest peak\, with an American flag to raise funds for the Kiwanis 9/11 Foundation.\nAssemblyman Saladino has spent his life on the Great South Bay on the southern border of the Assembly District.
